SELENA'S STORY

Magic Parent Program

My name is Selena, I am from Bulgaria. I came to the U.S. as a single parent with my 9 year old daughter to pursue the American Dream.

I landed in New York with $500 in my pocket, $500 worth of inspiration. I spoke no English, had  no job, no place to stay, and no friends. I left my home and my country because after Bulgaria changed from Communism to Democracy, it became impossible to live there. The government took all the dreams and safe life away from people. Crimes were everywhere, including stealing and killing. People were willing to do anything for money and power. Almost every day I would read in the paper about a kidnapped child from the street or the playground. The police could not be counted on for protection or support.

I needed to rescue myself and my daughter from this horrible way of living life. I was so sick of being broke and afraid for her safety every single day. I felt like I was trapped inside a bad movie, and when you feel like this,  there is not much to offer to your kids. Most troubling however was the thought of my daughter growing up without a future. Every parent will understand what I am saying.

What was keeping me alive was my big dream - to go to America, the land of opportunity. It took me 8 years and lot of money to get the visa and leave Bulgaria. It was very difficult to get a U.S. visa, especially when you are taking your child with you. However, in our case it was meant to be.  Three months after we got visas, we were standing on American land in front of the JFK airport in New York. I couldn't believe it was real! I didn't care what was waiting for us, I was just so happy we were finally here.

I had a lot of challenges to deal with, including being a parent:

 - I had no training how to be a “good” parent

 - I was in a foreign country

 - I didn’t speak English

 - I had no money

 - I had no husband, family or friends

 - I worked 12 hours per night on overnight shifts, 7 days a week, making $30 per shift

I had to learn as I went - day by day - how to be an efficient parent in order to survive. Efficiency is everything when it comes to parenting. I mastered how to earn mutual respect, trust, love and motivation in my child, even with limited time together.

I don’t have a PhD in “parenting”. However, I am an expert in street smart parenting.  I am simply  a single mother who took the risk and left her country with nothing, so she can  give her daughter a chance for better life.

How did I make it work? A single parent in a foreign country? My secret was, EFFICIENCY!

In my most recent career, I met a lot of mothers with different backgrounds, nationalities and parenting problems. Many times I would share my experiences,  methods, and magic tips on how I would handle certain parenting situations. They would get inspired, implement my strategies, and then I would receive positive feedback - even sometimes from their appreciative spouses! The positive experience they had, along with many others, encouraged me to share these tools and strategies with all parents.

I have dedicated my life to helping struggling parents become more efficient and thus more effective in their parenting. If you follow the strategies I recommend, you will be less stressed, you will get your life back, and you will raise happy, successful and productive members of society.

If I can do it, you can do it too!
